About The NeoStrata Skin Products
NeoStrata ProSystem is a highly effective, superficial peeling system that will provide you with clinically proven results. This system offers four concentrations of free-acid Glycolic Acid peels and two targeted benefit peels (Clarifying and Brightening). Neostrata ProSystem® superficial peels, often referred to as ‘lunchtime peels’ are short procedures provided by a clinician.
Neostrata ProSystem® uses three different alpha hydroxyl acids, (AHAs) found naturally occurring in fruits and other foods;
- Glycolic acid – Sugar cane
- Citric acid – Citrus fruits
- Mandelic acid – Almonds
Neostrata ProSystem® AHA peels have the advantage of being non toxic and they require little recovery time. Usually done in a series of controlled treatments, AHA peels are often comparable in their results to some deeper peels without the complications.
Many common skin conditions are caused by a build up of excess dead skin cells which cause the skin to appear dull and are the cause of clogged pores. AHA’s help to remove the dead surface layers, exfoliate and smooth the surface of the skin as well as providing deeper antiaging effects.
The process of a peel treatment acts as a specific technique for skin renewal. It involves the application of a high concentration of an AHA applied safely to the skin for a short period and then chemically neutralized.
Post-procedure products are suitable for all skin types and formulated to:

What skin conditions do NeoStrata ProSystem skin peels improve?
It is important to have a realistic expectation what a peel or series of peels can accomplish for you. The following are types of improvement that can be expected.
- diminished appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- evening of skin tone and lightening of discolorations or sun damage
- diminished appearance of pore size
- improved skin tone and texture
- reduced appearance of blemishes in acne prone skin
- visual softening of shallow acne scars
- increased skin glow or radiance
They contribute to an overall rejuvenation of your skin. It is important to discuss with your practitioner your aims so that treatment can be tailored to your specific needs.
Can anyone be treated with a Neostrata Prosystem Peel?
Although all skin types can be treated with the Neostrata Prosystem peels, it is important to discuss with your clinician your expectations and medical history and skin sensitivities.
Certain medical conditions may not be suitable for peels. These include:
- collagen disease
- autoimmune disease
- keloid scars
- active herpes simplex
- sunburn
- use of oral retinoids within 6 months
- radiation treatment or cryosurgery within 6 months
- pregnancy or breastfeeding
Do I need to prepare my skin for a peel?
Ideally patients should have proven tolerability to AHA’s such as glycolic acid in order to assess compatability.
During your initial free consultation your clinician will recommend pretreatment with a product containing glycolic acid. It is important to use this for 1-2 weeks prior to your peel. Skin that is sensitive to AHA may be especially sensitive to peels.
Does the treatment hurt?
During the process of the peel you may experience slight discomfort which can manifest as mild stinging, burning, itching, tingling.
Whilst the acid is being neutralized with spray you may also feel a momentary warming sensation followed by a resolution of the discomfort generally over a few minutes to hours.
Not everyone will experience these sensations and if you do not it is not an indicator that the peel will be less effective.
Do I need to take any precautions after my peel?
Initially your skin may be red and feel sensitive. Some patients feel stinging, burning, itching mild discomfort, tightness puffiness,crusting and peeling of superficial layer of skin.
These are normal and expected results. It is important to remember that unlike other peels you do not have see visible flaking or peeling of the skin to achieve desired results.
Your skin may feel rough initially due to enhanced exfoliation and light peeling.
It is important to note that your skin will be especially sensitive to sunlight and other sources of UV light. Avoid sun exposure and use sunscreen.
To speed recovery and renewal process, gently cleanse your face using the Neostrata facial cleanser. Apply a neostrata bionic /PHA twice daily for 2-3 days . Apply apply a neostrata daytime protection suncream.
How long will it take before the effects are visible?
Smoothening of the skin and improvements with acne prone skin can occur with 1-3 peels.
Deeper textural changes to the skin often require multiple peels. Noticeable improvement generally occurs following 3-6 peels.
The most severe skin issues can take longer to improve. Results are best achieved in a series of treatments and can be combined with other treatment modalities to achieve the best outcome for your skin.
How long will the effects last?
Once you have achieved the full effect from your course of peels, it is recommended to complete maintenance peels 3-4 times a year to maintain their effects. The use of regular Neostrata skincare products will preserve the effects longer.
Are there any side effects?
Patients may experience redness, stinging, itching, burning, tightness minor swelling and peeling of the superficial layer of the skin. These sensations gradually diminish over the course of a week as the skin returns to normal.
It is important to remember that most patients will experience no side effects other than the slight stinging/ burning sensation during the procedure.
On rare occasions patients may experience a deeper peel which may cause blistering, peeling crusting or scabbing.
Peels may cause a rash around the mouth, an acne flair or a herpes simplex flare.
Tobacco use may prolong healing time.
Hypergigmentation ( darkening of the skin) or hypopigmentation ( loss of natural skin colour) may be experienced by some patients after a superficial peel. The skin will usually return to its natural colour with time. Very rarely hypopigmentation can be permanent.
How many peels will I need?
This will depend on what results you hope to achieve. On your free consultation, your physician will evaluate your needs and devise for you a course of treatments that you are invited to consider. It is often recommended to book a course of peels to ensure the best results are achieved.
